The Alcorcón City Council has put out to tender a contract of €55,174.09 to repair leaks, cracks, and pavements at the school on Islas Cíes street. The PP criticises that the problems have been known since 2024.
The Alcorcón City Council has initiated a contract of €55,174.09 to carry out repairs at the Gloria Fuertes Nursery School, located on Islas Cíes street. The work includes tasks related to leaks and waterproofing issues, as well as interventions on pavements, carpentry, installations, and outdoor spaces, according to Noticias para Municipios.
The file includes the repair of damage caused by leaks, the cleaning and sealing of cracks, the inspection and cleaning of the roof and gutters, the replacement of deteriorated areas of the PVC flooring, and the repair of exterior carpentry, doors, blinds, and other elements. There will also be work on sidewalks, curbs, enclosures, outdoor furniture, and patios.
The intervention comes after a period in which, according to municipal documentation, various needs of the centre have been addressed through specific actions. The City Council is now proposing a broader contract that allows for the coordination of different specialties in a single action.
What is concerning is not only the state of the school, but that the City Council has known about these problems since 2024 and has let the summer pass without solving them," says Roberto Marín Vergara, the PP candidate for the Alcorcón Mayor.
The PP argues that the problems have been known since 2024 and questions why a broader action has only now been proposed. Marín Vergara believes that the deficiencies affect sensitive issues in a children's educational centre, such as safety, health, and the normal operation of the facilities. The Popular Party asserts that the technical report acknowledges that the current situation prevents the normal functioning of the school.
The municipal government defends that this is not an action that starts now and reminds that the school has been at the centre of the Education Department's actions since the crisis of the previous management company in 2024.

The City Council places the origin of the process in the crisis of Atreyu Blota Carto, the company that managed the school and faced financial difficulties that caused delays and unpaid wages to its workers. According to the City Council, its first priority was to ensure that the centre remained open and that the 17 workers kept their jobs.
These actions are complemented by the climate control of the school in November 2024, as part of the municipal Climate Control Plan for nursery schools. The City Council asserts that during these two years, specific incidents have been resolved while preparing for a broader intervention for repairs that required coordinated action.
