The Tax Agency published on Thursday the income tax statistics by postal codes for 2024, a report that once again places La Moraleja, in the Madrid municipality of Alcobendas, as the neighbourhood with the highest average gross income in Spain: €235,556 per taxpayer. The difference with the neighbourhood with the lowest income, Torreblanca, in Seville, is €224,000, as reported by La Vanguardia.
The income of taxpayers in La Moraleja grew by 20% compared to the previous year. In this residential area in northern Madrid, footballers, artists, and businesspeople, among other professional profiles, coexist.
Following La Moraleja, the highest incomes in the country are concentrated in Ciudalcampo and Fuente del Fresno, with average gross incomes of €145,046 and €139,369 respectively. Both are private developments with security and their own services, where some areas only allow access to residents, guests, or workers of the homes. The year-on-year growth in these two cases also approached 20%.
One must travel to Barcelona to find the next neighbourhood with higher incomes: Muntaner, with an average gross income of €127,182 in 2024. Following are Pedralbes-Sarriá (€123,886) and Vallvidrera-Tibidabo i Les Planes (€121,490). In seventh place is A Coruña, where the average gross income rose from €53,354 in 2023 to €117,970 in 2024, more than doubling.
The Community of Madrid places two more neighbourhoods among the top ten: Aravaca (€117,360) and Salamanca-Goya, in the city centre (€116,978), in eighth and ninth positions.
At the opposite end of the table, after Torreblanca (Seville), with €11,560, are the Alicante neighbourhood of Nou Alacant (€17,506) and Cortijo de San Marín, in Roquetas de Mar, Almería (€17,632). They are followed by Carrús, in Elche (€18,207); Sector Sur-Polígono del Guadalquivir, in Córdoba (€19,711); Ciudad Jardín, in Alicante (€19,813); Norte-Beiro, in Granada (€20,214); and Santa Engracia-El Gurugú-Los Colorines-Cerro la Muela-San Fernando, in Badajoz (€20,353).
The report also details the source of income. In La Moraleja, income from work represented 49% of the total, while in Torreblanca it reached 76.08%. Capital income accounted for 25% of the income of taxpayers in La Moraleja, compared to just 0.2% in the Seville neighbourhood.
The Tax Agency specifies that the statistics only include income data, not wealth, and only from individuals who submitted their income tax return in 2024, so it does not include the income of those who are not required to submit it.
