The Government Council has authorised a contract of over 500,000 euros to care for the research livestock of Censyra and Imidra for two years.
The Government Council of the Community of Madrid has authorised a contract exceeding 500,000 euros to care for livestock intended for research, the improvement of native breeds, and the application of knowledge in the agri-food sector. According to madridactual.es, the work will last 24 months, between 2027 and 2028.
The company will be selected through an open competition that will assess various criteria. The budget will cover staff salaries and other necessary expenses to provide the service at the two regional research facilities.
At the Animal Selection and Reproduction Centre (Censyra), in Colmenar Viejo, the awarded contractor will take care of the daily needs of horses, sheep, goats, and cows, as well as supplying fodder and feed. They will also clean and disinfect stables, pens, and other spaces, and inspect and maintain fences and enclosures.
At the experimental estate La Chimenea, of the Madrid Institute of Research and Rural Development, Agricultural and Food (Imidra), located in Aranjuez, the staff will attend to SACHS type minipigs and the cattle at the Testing Centre. Tasks include moving bales of fodder and straw, managing silos and storages, and cleaning yards and pens.
The employees will also assist in holding the animals during weight checks, veterinary treatments, and examinations. According to the regional government, these tasks are necessary for animal welfare and for research to continue at both centres.
