The matador Morante de la Puebla has confirmed that his continuation in the bullrings in 2027 depends on the evolution of the dissociative disorder he suffers from. His last two fights of the season will be in Zaragoza, one of which is in homage to Dr. Val Carreres.

The bullfighter Morante de la Puebla has left his continuation in the bullrings for the 2027 season up in the air. In an interview granted to the programme Extremadura, tierra de toros, the Sevillian matador responded with a terse "It depends on many things, on the evolution... these are things that are very unpleasant to talk about..." when asked about his presence at the Olivenza fair. When pressed by the reporter, who wanted to know what would happen if it only depended on him, Morante smiled and replied: "If it depended on me, yes…", as reported by Diario de Sevilla.

The cigarrero genius suffers from a dissociative disorder that, according to his own words, he continues to face with his swords held high. This confession adds to the doubts he has already raised in previous appearances, keeping fans on edge about his future in the bullrings.

Before the season ends, Morante has two fights in Zaragoza, a commitment made with Ramón Valencia to reinforce the maño subscription for the launch of the company that includes Jesús Mena, Valencia himself, and the Matilla house. One of those afternoons will have a personal and sentimental component: it will serve as a homage to Dr. Val Carreres, the undisputed master of bullfighting surgery.

The season that is now winding down started at the Fallas de San José and has been, in the words of the bullfighter himself, "extensive, intense, and excessive", with a schedule that has taken him across Spain on numerous occasions. The liturgical calendar for 2027 is tightening, and the bull will step onto the sand very soon, but the question of Morante's presence remains open.

The matador has also had to face criticism from a sector of the public at Las Ventas, who did not forgive him for his performance on October 12, the Day of the Hispanicity, when he returned to the Madrid arena a year after his emotional retirement. Despite the divisions, Morante has maintained his commitment to the fans and to the commitments made.

The 2026 season still has some chapters pending: the last stretch of the Zaragoza fair and the fight that closes the Jaén subscription, in addition to other festivities scattered throughout the autumn. For Morante, these will be his last appointments before a break that, according to his words, will depend on how his health evolves.
