The San Nicasio Festivities in Leganés take place from October 3 to 12 with seven nights of concerts, the announcement by Civil Protection, and the 48th Popular Race, among other activities.
The San Nicasio Festivities in Leganés kick off this Saturday, October 3, and will run until Monday, October 12, featuring a programme that includes seven nights of concerts, shows, sports activities, and religious events. The musical lineup is headlined by Juan Magán, Mägo de Oz, Fangoria, and Siempre Así, as reported by the Leganés City Council in a statement picked up by diariosigloxxi.com.
The programme was presented this Thursday at the Leganés Town Hall, where the promotional poster for the festivities was also unveiled, designed by local resident Irene Ruiz, winner of the first competition organised by the City Council to choose the image for the celebrations.
The mayor, Miguel Ángel Recuenco, noted that coinciding with the 400th anniversary of the Villa, the municipality boasts this year "the best musical lineup in recent years" for its festivities. The mayor also thanked the work of associations, entities, and clubs, and particularly highlighted the choice of Civil Protection as the announcers for their "service to the city" and their "ongoing altruism".
The announcement will take place on October 7 at 20:30 in the Plaza de San Nicasio, next to the hermitage, by the volunteers of Civil Protection from Leganés.
The musical performances will begin this Sunday at 21:00 in the San Nicasio Fairgrounds with the Orquesta Panorama. On the same day, at 12:00, the traditional Giants and Bigheads Parade will take place, starting from the José Saramago Civic Centre and ending at the Plaza de la Ermita de San Nicasio.
On the 7th, following the announcement, there will be a tribute to Joaquín Sabina at 21:30 by Keny Castellanos. On Thursday the 8th, at 22:00, the 'Close to the Stars' Gala will feature performances by Lys Pardo, Supremas, Los Brincos, La Banda Orion, and Jhonny Covers.
One of the main concerts will take place on Friday the 9th at 23:00 with Juan Magán. The artist will later be joined by the 'Aura Show' by Juan Peña, which will extend the musical programme until 4:30.
On Saturday the 10th, starting at 20:30, the San Nicasio Rock festival will feature Kamikazes, Barracuda, and Leize, before the performance of Mägo de Oz as the headline act.
Sunday the 11th will concentrate several main performances. At 21:00, Siempre Así will perform, followed by Nancys Rubias at 22:30, and Fangoria will take the stage close to midnight. The day will conclude with the 'Sanni Remix Hits' party, expected to last until 4:30. On Monday the 12th, the final day of the festivities, Paula Mattheus will perform at 21:00, followed by Besmaya at 22:30.
The festive programme will be complemented by various sports and traditional activities. On Sunday the 11th, at 9:00, the 48th San Nicasio Popular Race will be held, organised by the San Nicasio Neighbourhood Association and the Leganés Athletics Club.
On Monday the 12th, at 14:00, there will be a community paella organised by the City Council, accompanied by a performance from the Orquesta Crystal.
Religious events will also be held in honour of the patron saint of Leganés. On Saturday the 10th, at 20:45, there will be a floral offering to San Nicasio at his hermitage. On Sunday the 11th, at 11:00, the Main Mass and solemn procession to the Parish of San Salvador will take place, while at 20:00, the return of the image to the hermitage will be conducted.
