The Adolfo Marsillach Municipal Auditorium in San Sebastián de los Reyes opens its season with 'Malquerida', by Jacinto Benavente, starring Aitana Sánchez-Gijón. The play premieres this Saturday, a day after 'Los locos de Valencia' inaugurates the classical theatre cycle.
The Adolfo Marsillach Municipal Auditorium in San Sebastián de los Reyes kicks off its new season with a programme that combines classical theatre, dance, opera, and family shows. The play 'Malquerida', by Jacinto Benavente, will premiere this Saturday with Aitana Sánchez-Gijón on stage, as reported by the local council to madridactual.es.
The season will open this Friday with 'Los locos de Valencia', by Lope de Vega, directed by Pepa Pedroche. Dance will arrive on 17 October with 'Española Fugaz', by Alejandro Lara Dance Project, and flamenco will blend with gestural comedy in 'Flamenc ¡Oh!', by the Yllana company, on 22 October.
In November, the theatre will host the opera 'Madama Butterfly', by Giacomo Puccini, featuring more than seventy artists on stage. José María Pou will star in 'Gigante', which has won three Olivier awards. The year will close with 'La verdad', by Florian Zeller, and 'Las gratitudes', an adaptation of the novel by Delphine de Vigan.
The family programme includes titles such as 'El hilo invisible', 'Cinderella, the musical', 'The great adventure of Chicken Pepe', and 'Christmas Dreams', as well as magic, classical ballet, and gospel during Christmas. In January, the national premiere of '7 minutos', by Stefano Massini, directed by Sergio Peris-Mencheta and featuring Blanca Portillo in the cast, will include a meet-and-greet with the audience after the performance.
The 'Fridays of Tradition' cycle dedicated to root music will take place from 16 October to 11 December. The 'Tuesdays of Art' will offer talks on the history of Asian art until 15 December, and the municipal libraries will programme storytelling, workshops, reading clubs, and exhibitions throughout the term.
The Centre for Poetry Studies will present the XXXVII International Poetry Prize José Hierro on 12 November. The XXIII National Young Poetry Prize Grande Aguirre, endowed with 5,000 euros, is accepting submissions until 2 November.
