The blue team, managed by José Bordalás, arrives after drawing 1-1 last Thursday in Romania against Universitatea Craiova, in the league phase of the UEFA Conference League. They will host Lugano on October 22. In their last league match, they lost 3-0 to FC Barcelona, with injuries piling up, and the last-minute addition of Dani Carvajal will strengthen the defence.
Rayo Vallecano has a new coach: Beñat San José replaces Íñigo Pérez. The franjirrojos have not competed for almost a month due to the international break and the suspension of a previous match. As visitors, they have only earned one point out of twelve possible and lost their last two away games against Real Madrid and Barcelona.
