Dani Carvajal assures that he joined Getafe for passion and not for money. The full-back also explains why he turned down the offer from Qatari Al-Gharafa.

Dani Carvajal explained in an interview on El Larguero, as reported by goal.com, that his signing for Getafe stemmed from a great passion for football and not from the financial offers he received from the Middle East. The right-back left behind a long spell at Real Madrid to continue his career at the Getafe club.

According to his account, he needed to get back to playing after a year away from the pitch due to the injury he suffered at Santiago Bernabéu. Carvajal admits he has watched the replays of that play hundreds of times, and that the injury affected his level and prevented him from competing in the 2026 World Cup.

I wanted to feel like a footballer again

The player also criticized the salary cap of LaLiga, which he considers ridiculous due to the difficulty of hiding payments in kind. He states that salary was not an obstacle to signing and that the president of Getafe gave him assurances to raise the salary cap.

Regarding the offer from the Qatari club Al-Gharafa, Carvajal confirms that negotiations were advanced and that he had prepared to move to Doha. He explains that the war he experienced up close with his brother-in-law, Joselu, in Qatar made him see the conflict differently.

When it affects you personally, it becomes something terrifying

Carvajal adds that, in the end, he weighed the pros and cons of each contract and that the transfer market in Spain raised doubts for him. He chose Getafe because he is motivated to help a team fighting for survival.

When asked about his relationship with Álvaro Arbeloa, the player referred the question to the Real Madrid coach.

I think this question should be asked to Álvaro

Carvajal maintains that he has always respected the coach's decisions, whether he played one minute or more, and that he trained every day despite losing his starting position for a few months.
