The Tres Cantos City Council is preparing school workshops and training to detect risks in the 2026/27 school year, according to discussions held in its 8th Local Suicide Prevention Committee.

According to magazineslv.com, the Tres Cantos City Council held its 8th Local Suicide Prevention Committee on 20 October 2026, where emotional well-being, training, and early detection actions planned for the 2026/27 school year were discussed. The meeting is part of the Local Suicide Prevention Plan 2023-2027.

The session, organised by the Department of Family and Equality under the supervision of the Social Services area, focused on the workshops planned in educational centres, mutual support groups, and awareness-raising actions aimed at different groups.

Training for municipal professionals and other agents in the field was also proposed. One of the main lines is the training of gatekeepers or key agents, who will learn to detect and intervene in possible risk situations.

There will also be a specific session for sports monitors, associations, and establishments linked to the programme for detecting unwanted loneliness. It will focus on warning signs and accompanying tools.

The municipality already has the Punto y Seguido service, which provides information and guidance on inquiries related to suicide and self-harm. Interested parties can write to prevencionsuicidio@trescantos.es.

Tres Cantos also has Mutual Support Groups for people experiencing hopelessness or lack of life projects, a Suicide Survivors Group for those who have lost someone close to this cause, Emotional Support Groups for those over 65, and Lxs Sinfiltradxs, for adolescents aged 15 to 17 with weekly sessions.

According to provisional data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Spain recorded 3,808 deaths by suicide in 2025, a 3.7% decrease from the previous year.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that over 720,000 people die by suicide each year worldwide, noting that it is the third leading cause of death among those aged 15 to 29.
