The Instruction Section number 5 of the Court of Instance in Segovia sends the four arrested in a drug operation to provisional prison without bail. Among them is the sub-lieutenant responsible for the EDOA in Segovia.
The four detainees in the drug operation carried out in Segovia have been sent to provisional prison, without bail, by order of the Instruction Section number 5 of the Court of Instance in Segovia, as confirmed by sources from the Superior Court of Justice of Castilla y León. Among those arrested is the sub-lieutenant of the Civil Guard who led the Team against Organised Crime and Drug Trafficking (EDOA) in the province, according to eldiasegovia.es.
The investigation, which began last April, accelerated about a month ago when one of the members of the plot was intercepted at Barajas airport (Madrid) with two kilos of drugs. The operation has been carried out by the Instruction Section number 5 and by Internal Affairs of the Civil Guard.
The sub-lieutenant is being investigated for drug trafficking offences that cause serious harm to health, aggravated by his status as a public official, bribery, discovery and revelation of secrets, and membership in a criminal group. The other three detainees are being investigated for drug trafficking offences that cause serious harm to health, bribery, money laundering, and membership in a criminal group.
Investigators have reconstructed the roles of each member of the organisation. Two of them were responsible for bringing the drugs from Madrid to Segovia, while the other two took on their distribution for subsequent sale. The sub-lieutenant, according to the Civil Guard, allegedly escorted the drug transfer from Madrid once a month and received a financial compensation of about 5,000 euros for each of those trips.
One of the detainees, known as 'The Fruiterer' due to his family ties with a fruit shop in Segovia, was the one who was caught with the two kilos at Barajas. Following that interception, according to the same sources, some members of the plot began to suspect the existence of an informant and considered closing the business immediately, but the investigators had already secured the operation and proceeded with the arrests.
In addition to the sub-lieutenant, who was promoted from sergeant to sub-lieutenant a few days ago, a businessman from Carbonero el Mayor, the aforementioned 'Fruiterer', who had created a construction company and had attracted attention for years due to his high standard of living, and a fourth man whose details have not been disclosed have been arrested. On Tuesday morning, the four were brought before the Instruction Section number 5 in the courthouse building in the Nueva Segovia neighbourhood.
The sub-lieutenant had previously spent two months in provisional prison in 2017 while his alleged involvement in crimes of membership in a criminal organisation, drug trafficking, bribery, failure to pursue crimes, and revelation of secrets was investigated. On that occasion, Internal Affairs searched his home, intercepted his phone, and he was provisionally suspended from his position. On May 28, 2018, the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 5 of Segovia ordered the dismissal of the proceedings for alleged crimes of failure to pursue crimes and revelation of secrets, four months after the Court number 3 of Sagunto (Valencia) archived the investigation into the rest of the crimes. In August of that year, the Official Bulletin of the Civil Guard published his reinstatement to the position he held in the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of the Command of Segovia.
In June 2019, the Civil Guard of Segovia deployed an operation to dismantle a drug trafficking gang under the name 'Operation Resurgir', the first he led after the investigation against him was archived. The Provincial Court acquitted the twelve people who stood trial for that operation in 2021, after the court declared the wiretaps carried out during the investigation weeks before the trial to be null.
