A 47-year-old national police officer died on Monday night in a traffic accident in the Madrid district of Latina, according to Emergencias Madrid and reported by elmundo.es. The incident took place shortly after 21:00 at the intersection of Los Poblados avenue and Tembleque street, near the Empalme Metro station, between the Campamento and Aluche neighbourhoods.
The officer, identified as Amador R., was assigned to the Extranjería and Documentation police station and had just left work to head home, so the incident is being investigated as a work-related accident in itinere.
For reasons still under investigation by the Madrid Municipal Police, the motorcycle and the car collided at that point. Municipal Police officers and a driver from the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers while attending to the motorcyclist.
Upon arrival, the Samur-Protección Civil paramedics continued the maneuvers in collaboration with the Madrid Firefighters, but they were unable to revive the man and confirmed his death. A psychologist from Samur also attended to the driver of the car, who suffered a severe anxiety crisis.
The National Police have expressed their condolences on social media for the loss of their colleague. "Our deepest condolences and a warm hug to the family and friends of our colleague," the force conveyed on their profile on the social network X.
The Traffic Judicial Police of the Municipal Police is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
