The Government delegate in Madrid assures that an investigation into the actions of the National Police at Complutense is already underway. One police officer was injured and four protesters were arrested.

The Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, confirmed this Wednesday on the program Hora 25 of Cadena SER that the investigation into the actions of the National Police during the clashes at the Complutense University of Madrid early in the morning is already in progress.

The incidents occurred at the Faculty of Chemistry, during an informational picket on the day of the strike in defense of public education. According to police sources, one police officer was injured and four protesters were arrested.

Martín described the images of the intervention as harsh and unacceptable. He explained that the investigation will determine what happened, how the actions were carried out, and what disciplinary measures are appropriate.

We have seen harsh and unacceptable images that hurt us all.

The delegate maintained that the response of the officers must always be proportional and that the images released do not represent the usual work of the National Police. According to the information available so far, the group of protesters attempted to breach the police cordon, and there were two assaults on police officers.

It is necessary to act, and that is why we are working with the utmost urgency.

For its part, the Complutense University of Madrid expressed in a statement its condemnation and deep concern over the clashes, lamenting that a day of advocacy ended with injuries and arrests.
