The Rafael del Pino Foundation gathers international experts on November 5 to discuss innovation centres and the race for talent in Madrid.
The Rafael del Pino Foundation has organised for the upcoming 5th of November at 7 PM the meeting “The Future of Madrid: Innovation Centres and the Global Race for Talent”, as published by frdelpino.es. The event will feature four international experts in innovation, entrepreneurship, and strategy.
The speakers will be Asier Alea, Global Development Director of the Basque Culinary Center; Victor Mulas, Chief Innovation Officer of Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) and President of CIC Catalyst; Jorge Cortell Albert, Visiting Professor at the Institute of Science Tokyo and former Senior Advisor of Healthcare & Life Sciences at Harvard Innovation Labs; and Mercedes Delgado, Associate Professor of Strategy and Innovation at Copenhagen Business School.
Asier Alea promotes the internationalisation strategy and the development of GOe – Gastronomy Open Ecosystem at the Basque Culinary Center, an ecosystem that connects talent, research, entrepreneurship, and businesses around gastronomy and food. He graduated magna cum laude in Economics and International Relations from Boston University, has postgraduate studies in Economics from the University of Oxford, and an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management. Before joining the Basque Culinary Center, he was the Director of Economic Development and Strategic Projects at the Provincial Council of Bizkaia.
Victor Mulas leads international initiatives at CIC to design innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems. He has over twenty years of experience in innovation, technology, and startups, and for more than twelve years worked at the World Bank, where he directed programmes on disruptive technologies, smart cities, and entrepreneurial ecosystems. He has advised governments on innovation policies and participates in initiatives within Japan's startup ecosystem.
Jorge Cortell Albert is active at the Center for Medical Innovation at the Institute of Science Tokyo and is Executive Director of TECH-Tokyo. Between 2023 and 2025, he was Senior Advisor of Healthcare & Life Sciences at Harvard Innovation Laboratories, where he worked with entrepreneurs and researchers in life sciences and health. He has developed projects in artificial intelligence, precision medicine, clinical genomics, medical imaging, and digital pathology, and has been a Venture Partner at NLC Health.
Mercedes Delgado researches the role of industrial clusters and innovation ecosystems in job creation, entrepreneurship, and resilience. She has developed methodologies to map clusters and supply chains and holds a PhD in Business Economics from the Complutense University of Madrid, with a master’s degree in Economics from Northwestern University. She co-directs the annual programme Frontiers of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, developed by the Rafael del Pino Foundation and MIT Sloan School of Management.
