The Civil Guard has arrested a former official of the Venezuelan diplomatic representation at Adolfo Suárez-Madrid Barajas airport who was carrying 50 kilos of cocaine hidden in his luggage. The arrest occurred after prior surveillance of suspicious movements in the international terminal, according to curadas.com.
The detainee attempted to rely on diplomatic documentation and credentials to avoid routine checks. The agents verified that he was no longer performing active official duties and that the documentation corresponded to a completed position, leading them to proceed with the search of the bags.
Inside the luggage, the 50 kilos of cocaine were found, which are now under judicial custody. The detainee was placed at the disposal of the Plaza de Castilla Investigating Court in Madrid for crimes against public health and drug trafficking.
Spokespersons for the Venezuelan embassy clarified that the individual is no longer part of the active staff of the diplomatic mission.
The investigation remains confidential to determine possible logistical links or the existence of a trafficking network between the two countries.
