Javier Milei's visit to the Rey Juan Carlos University will be met with protests organised by students and leftist organisations. They are calling for the cancellation of the invitation to the Argentine president.
According to extra.ec, several student organisations have called for gatherings against the visit that the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, will make on Wednesday to a campus of the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) in Madrid.
There, he will meet with Professor Jesús Huerta de Soto and participate in the presentation of the Master's Degree in Economics of the Austrian School. The URJC Platform for Public Education has organised a protest on campus at 12:30, half an hour before the event, as announced on their social media.
The organisers want to express their rejection of the visit. The platform demands that the invitation be cancelled and asks the URJC administration to publicly dissociate itself from the event, because, they argue, Argentina has become:
the laboratory of anarcho-capitalism, with a social cost” that affects millions of people
Argentinian students and the rectors of their universities, they add, have been mobilising for months against cuts.
Meanwhile, the Socialist Student Organisation (OES) of Madrid has called for a gathering at 12:00 in front of the campus library. Their call criticises what they describe as fascist rhetoric at the university and, according to this organisation, the president proposes a framework of austerity and privatisation.
The Communist Party of Madrid and the Communist Youth have also joined in, calling for denunciation of the university's attitude towards the president. For local residents, the practical consequence is that there will be gatherings on campus early Wednesday morning, with the OES protest at 12:00 and the platform's protest at 12:30.
