The National Police have arrested two men for 28 robberies with a haul close to one million euros. They targeted armoured vehicles to steal the safes containing the earnings from betting and gaming houses.

The National Police have arrested two men in Hormigos (Toledo) and at the gates of the Alcalá-Meco prison in the Community of Madrid, who rammed armoured vehicles to steal the safes. This is reported by infobae.com, which relies on information from the Superior Police Headquarters of Madrid.

The arrested individuals, who have already been imprisoned, are charged with 28 robberies with a profit close to one million euros.

To carry out the assaults, they used stolen high-end cars against the armoured vehicles, firearms to intimidate employees, and tools such as hammers and grinders. They also similarly targeted logistics and telecommunications establishments.

One of the detainees was serving a sentence in a semi-liberty regime at the Meco prison and returned to the centre every night. When someone warned him that he was going to be arrested, he attempted to flee by jumping a fence, but the officers intercepted him immediately.

The investigation began in June, following several assaults on armoured vehicles. The operation culminated on September 9 with searches in homes in Coslada, Madrid, and Hormigos.

During the searches, officers seized mobile phones, frequency jammers, bolt cutters, grinders, axes, a shotgun with ammunition, four high-displacement vehicles, and more than 6,500 euros in cash.

Among the seized items were a geolocation device and a notebook with notes on gaming machine companies. The suspects used these to study the locations of the robberies before committing them.
