The DGT's special traffic operation begins with heavy traffic on the A3 near Rivas Vaciamadrid and complications on all motorways leaving the capital.
The special traffic operation for the Pilar Bridge started this Friday at three in the afternoon with delays at all exits from Madrid. The Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) expects 5.7 million journeys on Spanish roads during the Hispanic holiday, according to data released by the agency.
After seven in the evening, the most complicated situation in the Community of Madrid was recorded on the A3 near Rivas Vaciamadrid, where traffic was heavy heading out of the city. The information, reported by Infobae, indicates that delays were affecting all the main exit routes from the capital.
In addition to the complications in Madrid, several accidents were hindering traffic in other provinces. On the A2, an incident was holding up traffic near Miralbueno and Pinar de Ebro, both in Zaragoza, heading towards Barcelona. On the A4, another accident complicated traffic in Santa Cruz de Mudela (Ciudad Real) heading towards Córdoba, and on the A7 passing through Aguadulce (Almería) towards Motril.
Traffic density was also high entering Barcelona via the C17 in Granollers, on the AC11 in Rianxo (A Coruña) in both directions, on the AP9 in Vigo towards Santiago de Compostela, and in Cantabria on the A8 in Laredo towards Santander and the A67 in Reinosa towards Palencia.
In the Basque Country, the A8 was experiencing complications in Portugalete (Bizkaia) heading towards Castro Urdiales, and the A15 in Andoain (Gipuzkoa) heading towards A1. In Burgos, the A1 was facing heavy delays in Grisaleña; in Navarra, the A21 was affected in Altunate towards Huesca; and in Palencia, the A67 in Alar del Rey towards Santander.
Traffic was dense in Toledo on the A4 near La Guardia heading towards Valdepeñas. In Andalusia, there were difficulties entering Seville via the A66 in Camas, and in Cádiz on the A7 near Guadalcorte and entering Algeciras.
The DGT is maintaining the special operation throughout the bridge to manage the expected journeys. Drivers leaving Madrid can check real-time traffic conditions through the agency's official channels before starting their journey.
