The Community of Madrid expands the Youth Card to those under 12 years old starting this Wednesday. The measure benefits around 130,000 more young people and maintains the document's free status.

Minors aged 12 years residing in the Community of Madrid can now apply for the Youth Card from this Wednesday. The Minister of Family, Youth and Social Affairs, Ana Dávila, announced this Tuesday the extension of the minimum age, which was previously set at 14 years. The information was reported by diariosigloxxi.com.

The card allows access to discounts in leisure, culture, and sports. According to data provided by the minister, there are already 740,000 young people in the region with this document, and with the reduction of the minimum age, "around 130,000 more young people will be able to enjoy it."

The service includes over 1,000 advantages in partner establishments, such as Cinesa, Kinépolis, the Madrid Amusement Park, the Zoo, Warner Park, and PortAventura. It also covers shows like The Lion King, offers at sports facilities, and a campaign for free swimming pools during the summer, as detailed by the Community in a statement.

The card is valid in 37 European countries through the European Youth Card Association (EYCA), which includes free travel insurance. The maximum age to obtain it remains at 30 years.

For those under 14 years old, the application must be made by parents or legal guardians. The procedure can be done in person or online through Tramita, the Electronic Administration headquarters of the Community of Madrid.

Last year, the Community recorded a 12% increase in the number of users compared to the previous year, with over 78,800 new registrations. Currently, 744,161 residents of Madrid aged between 14 and 30 hold this document, representing 54% of the population in that age group in the region.
