Madrid City Council has once again requested that the Government Delegation evict the camp at Puerta del Sol, as local businesses fear losses during the Christmas campaign.
In a letter, the Madrid City Council is reiterating its request to the Government Delegation for the eviction of the camp set up at Puerta del Sol. According to Telemadrid, the protest has been ongoing and incidents in the square are increasing.
Police unions report that fights and acts of vandalism are becoming more frequent in this central area of the capital. Shops and establishments in the area are facing the upcoming Christmas campaign with fears of suffering millions in losses due to difficulties in operating normally.
Madrid's Deputy Mayor, Inma Sanz, criticises the climate of tension surrounding the protest and rejects the attacks against the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
I do not like to see the harassment, the intimidation, insults, threats that are occurring against the President of the Community of Madrid, who was overwhelmingly voted for by all Madrid residents
Sanz believes that these behaviours are incompatible with democratic principles and reproaches some political leaders for not condemning them and, as she claims, encouraging them.
It is unacceptable in a democratic state
The City Council insists that the Government Delegation intervene to put an end to the camp, which, according to the Council, is causing problems of coexistence, security, and economic activity in one of Madrid's main tourist and commercial hotspots.
