The City Council of Madrid has approved a public job offer of 2,557 positions for 2026, the highest in its history. It includes 439 for the Municipal Police and 185 for Specialist Firefighters, among other profiles.
The City Council of Madrid has greenlit a public job offer of 2,557 positions for 2026, the highest figure in its history. The offer was approved in two rounds during July and was subsequently published in the Official Bulletin of the City Council of Madrid (BOAM), according to que.es. The positions range from skilled trades to doctors, firefighters, and IT professionals.
The offer is divided into two blocks. The general OEP, which encompasses the entire City Council, totals 1,583 positions: 1,077 for open competition, for those who do not yet work in the City Council, and 506 for internal promotion, for municipal employees looking to advance. The second block pertains to Security and Emergencies, with 974 positions, of which 759 are for open competition.
The most sought-after positions are in the Municipal Police, with 439 positions for open competition. This is followed by 185 for Specialist Firefighters and 143 for Social Workers. There are also 124 positions for auxiliary technicians in sports activities, 119 for administrative assistants, and 57 for social educators, among other profiles.
The Security and Emergencies section was published in the BOAM on 20 July; the general section on 27 July. The negotiation was concluded at the General Employment Table with the support of UGT and CCOO.
To apply for one of these positions, candidates must meet the general requirements for access to public employment and hold the qualifications required for each position. The specific details of the syllabus, tests, and conditions are set in each call.
Registration is always done electronically, through the General Electronic Registry of the City Council of Madrid. A digital certificate or the DNIe is required, or alternatively Cl@ve Pin or Cl@ve Permanente. The system allows for the payment of fees and the registration of the application in the same process.
The offer is only the authorization to fill the positions: until each call is published, the registration period does not open.
Those exempt from paying the fee must still complete the process, even if the amount is 0 euros. This applies to job seekers, victims of gender violence, people with disabilities, and single-parent families. Without this step, the receipt that must be attached to the application is not obtained.
Once the bases of each call are published, the registration period is 20 working days, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. After that, within two months, the list of admitted and excluded candidates is published, and those who are excluded or do not appear will have 10 working days to rectify the error.
Approving the offer does not imply calling for exams. Each body, scale, or category requires its own call, where the bases, syllabus, and test calendar are established. In practice, the exams for these 2,557 positions will be published in batches over the coming months. A minimum of 7 calendar days and a maximum of 45 must pass between the end of one exercise and the start of the next.
The City Council has also revamped the exam space on its website, with a search tool for waiting lists and a dictionary to understand the terminology of the processes. Information is available on the official website of the City Council of Madrid.
