Five restaurants in Madrid allow you to eat for less than 20 euros per person, according to OK Diario, which concludes a guide of five installments on the affordable offerings in the capital.
The selection includes a historic tavern in the centre, a Yunnanese restaurant near Plaza de España, an Asturian cider house, a pizzeria in Lavapiés, and a restaurant with a Castilian menu in the Salamanca district.
Taberna Antonio Sánchez, located at Mesón de Paredes 13 in Antón Martín, is the oldest tavern in Madrid, founded in 1787. It serves a daily menu and dishes such as stewed oxtail, ham croquettes, and battered cod, for around 14 to 17 euros per person.
Yun-Nans, at San Bernardino 11, prepares noodles crossing the bridge, a hen broth in which the customer adds slices of meat, vegetables, and rice noodles. With a bowl and steamed dumplings, the total comes to around 12 to 15 euros.
El Escarpín, located at Hileras 17, just a few steps from Calle Mayor, offers a daily menu and dishes such as corn tortos with picadillo, homemade fabada, or beef cachopines. The menu includes a glass of cider and costs between 15 and 18 euros.
Pizzería Lopez&Lopez, at Doctor Piga 9 in Lavapiés, makes Roman-style pizzas with thin, long-fermented dough, using natural tomatoes, artisanal cheeses, and cured meats from small producers. With a pizza and a craft beer, the average expense is around 13 to 16 euros.
Casa Puebla, at Ayala 108, cooks Castilian dishes such as white beans with chorizo, stews, and fresh fish of the day. Its executive menu at lunchtime costs about 14 euros.
