The PP's Agriculture Coordinator, Carmen Crespo, and the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, have been honoured at the fifth edition of the International The Grape Night Awards, held in Madrid as part of Fruit Attraction.
The fifth edition of the International The Grape Night Awards, organised by the Association of Producers-Exporters of Fruits and Vegetables, Table Grapes and other Agricultural Products of the Region of Murcia (APOEXPA), has recognised in Madrid the work of Carmen Crespo, PP's Agriculture and Rural Policy Coordinator, and Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid, as reported by diariodealmeria.es. The gala took place during Fruit Attraction, the international fair of the horticultural sector that is currently bringing together professionals from across Europe in the capital.
Crespo, originally from Adra (Almería), received the award for her defence of the Spanish horticultural sector both in Spain and in European institutions. The leader expressed her gratitude for the recognition, which she said she receives "with great emotion," and asserted the strategic importance of the sector in ensuring European food sovereignty.
Stricter controls on imports and the demand for sanitary and phytosanitary reciprocity for products from third countries
During her speech, Crespo advocated for a CAP with a solid budget and the maintenance of direct and coupled aid, as well as support for the Organisations of Producers of Fruits and Vegetables. She also called for stricter controls on imports and the demand for sanitary and phytosanitary reciprocity for products from third countries.
The PP leader has positioned water as a "state issue" and a "strategic priority to ensure the future of Spanish agriculture." In this regard, she proposed a European investment plan for water infrastructure to meet the needs of irrigation and the agricultural sector as a whole.
Crespo also defended changes in forest management and the Forestry Law to reconcile environmental protection with sustainable use and fire prevention.
In this fifth edition, Crespo shared recognition with José María Pozancos, for his career in FEPEX, and with the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, honoured for her support of the agricultural sector. The gala, held in Madrid, is part of the Fruit Attraction fair, taking place these days in the capital.
