The Mayor of Madrid responds to the criticisms from the President of the Government with the balance of public housing in affordable rental since 2019. He also reproaches PSOE and Más Madrid for rejecting two urban planning plans.
The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has responded to the accusations from the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who attributed to the PP the promotion of "the jungle law" in real estate matters. He did so in a video shared on his social media, as reported by Libertad Digital, where he defends the management of the Madrid City Council and compares its figures with the promises of the central government.
The mayor emphasised that the capital has delivered its 5,000th public housing in affordable rental since he took office in 2019, a year after Sánchez arrived at La Moncloa. In the video, Almeida focused on the evolution of these figures:
Last week we delivered the 5,000th housing since we arrived at the Government here in the City Council in affordable rental. To give you an idea, while the left built 17 homes in 4 years, we have delivered 17 homes every 10 days since we have been in Government.
The mayor also questioned the announcements from the central government regarding housing construction. "Do you remember how many times Pedro Sánchez has promised homes? (...) Do you know how many he has built? None," he condemned, before labelling the socialist discourse on this matter as "demagoguery of sanchismo."
Furthermore, he reproached PSOE and Más Madrid for their vote against two special plans from the Urbanism, Environment and Mobility Area in the last extraordinary Plenary. These plans will allow for the development of 18,400 new protected homes by 2028.
Finally, Martínez-Almeida contrasted the €811 million invested by his government team in the last three years against the €256 million allocated by the City Council of Barcelona, led by socialist Jaume Collboni.
