Felipe VI and Queen Letizia inaugurate the exhibition on Luís de Camões at the National Library of Spain, which will be open until 14 February 2027.

The Kings, Felipe VI and Letizia, inaugurate at the National Library of Spain the exhibition dedicated to Luís de Camões, marking the conclusion of the fifth centenary of the Portuguese poet. According to the agenda of the Royal House reported by moncloa.com, the event will be attended by the President of Portugal, António José Seguro.

The exhibition is organized by the National Library of Spain, the Mission Structure for the Commemorations of the Fifth Centenary of the Birth of Luís de Camões, through the Institute of Cooperation and Language of Portugal, and the Friends of the National Library Foundation. It aims to read Camões (1524-1580) as a product of an Iberian historical and cultural context.

The journey begins with medieval lyricism and Portuguese chronicles, including the Cronica del Rei dom Joham primeiro de Portugal by Fernão Lopes, and a Derrotero del Mediterráneo y costa atlántica, a nautical chart from the 17th century. It continues with the authors who influenced the poet, from the Cantigas de Santa María by Alfonso X to the codex of Francisco de Holanda.

The third section gathers works preserved in the National Library, including the first editions of Os Lusíadas printed in Lisbon in 1572 and the annotated edition by Manuel de Faria e Sousa published in Madrid in 1639. The conclusion showcases Camões' influence on authors such as Rosalía de Castro, Jacinto Verdaguer, Francisco Villaespesa, Jorge Luis Borges, and Antonio Muñoz Molina.

The exhibition will be open to visitors at the National Library of Spain until 14 February 2027.
