The Community of Madrid has published a guide that includes over 100 contemporary art spaces, with options in the capital and in municipalities such as Móstoles, Arganda del Rey, or Alcobendas.
According to 20minutos, the Community of Madrid has edited a new contemporary art guide that brings together more than 100 spaces in the region, beyond the major museums like the Prado, the Thyssen, or the Reina Sofía. The aim is for tourists and residents to discover the artistic offerings of the Community and not miss any exhibitions.
The guide seeks to provide a journey through Madrid from a contemporary perspective, also paying attention to architecture, experiences, and the territory. It is designed both for planning a visit and for organising outings on days off.
In Móstoles, the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo houses the Contemporary Art Collection of the Community of Madrid. Its building combines an old traditional construction, known as the Casona, with spaces for exhibitions and activities such as visits, workshops, and film screenings.
In the capital, the guide highlights the Sala Alcalá 31, on Alcalá street, featuring exhibitions by mid-career artists and reviews of established creators. It also includes the Espacio Fundación Telefónica, the Círculo de Bellas Artes, and the Casa de América, whose programming varies according to each space.
In Arganda del Rey, the Casa del Rey hosts temporary exhibitions. Before visiting, it is advisable to check the municipal agenda to know which exhibition is available.
To the north of the capital, the Centro de Arte Alcobendas houses the Alcobendas Photography Collection, initiated in 1994. It brings together works of contemporary Spanish photography, ranging from portrait and landscape to social documentation, and among its authors are Gabriel Cualladó, Carlos Pérez Siquier, and Alberto Schommer.
