The Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of the Community of Madrid will open for free until midnight on Saturday, September 12, featuring the exhibitions 'Saber-toothed Cats' and '25 Years of Restorations'. The Cervantes Birthplace offers theatrical routes with three performances.
The Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of the Community of Madrid (MARPA), located in the historic centre of Alcalá de Henares, will have an extraordinary free opening until midnight on Saturday, September 12, as reported by the Community of Madrid. This opening is part of Heritage Night 2026, which is celebrated simultaneously in the 15 Spanish cities declared World Heritage Sites.
The day will allow visitors to see the temporary exhibition 'Saber-toothed Cats', about the great predators of the Pleistocene: their biology, behaviour, hunting strategies, and evolution. The small-format exhibition '25 Years of Restorations at MARPA: Glass' will also be open, part of the The Present of Madrid Archaeology cycle, ongoing since 2014.
The tour includes the permanent exhibition, which reviews the history of the region from its origins to the Modern Age, featuring the Emiliano Aguirre Paleontology Room and its fossils. In the courtyard of the old Dominican convent of Madre de Dios, the Garden of Antiquities is preserved, with mosaics from Complutum, the Roman city located in the area of present-day Alcalá de Henares.
The extraordinary opening will also allow visitors to explore the museum's permanent exhibition, a journey into the region's past from its origins to the Modern Age
The Cervantes Birthplace Museum organises theatrical routes under the motto Of whose name I do wish to remember featuring characters from the writer's works. There will be three performances on Saturday, September 12: at 12:30, 18:00, and 19:00, each lasting approximately one hour. The house will open exceptionally throughout the day and also at night, until midnight, with access allowed up to 20 minutes before closing.
Both the night opening of MARPA and the routes and visit to the Cervantes Birthplace are free. The theatrical routes have limited capacity.
