The Council of Ministers authorises an addendum that extends the R&D agreement in cybersecurity and biometric recognition for four more years, with an annual contribution of €485,000.
The Council of Ministers has given the green light to a modification of the spending limits set out in the General Budget Law so that the Ministry of the Interior can process an extension addendum to the agreement it maintains with the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) and its foundation. The information, reported by diariosigloxxi.com, details that the agreement will be extended for four more years, until 2030.
The original agreement, signed on February 22, 2023, had a duration of four years (2023-2026) and included an annual contribution of €485,000 from the General Directorate of the Civil Guard. With the extension, that same amount will be maintained for the period 2027-2030.
The purpose of the agreement is technological collaboration in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) applied to security. The areas of work include cybersecurity, pattern recognition, biometric security, and data science.
The high degree of satisfaction obtained in meeting the objectives and the accumulated experience justify the decision to agree to the extension for an additional four years,” states the agreement approved by the Executive.
The extension will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the current agreement. As the limits of Law 47/2003, of November 26, General Budgetary, have been exceeded, the Council of Ministers has authorised raising the ceiling of spending commitments for the years 2027 to 2030.
The agreement is aimed at meeting the objectives of the 'Citizen Security' spending programme and represents a stable funding avenue for the expert group in analysis and research in cybersecurity and biometric recognition that the Civil Guard develops together with the UAM.
