The Puerta de Hierro Biobank and IDIPHISA become the first in the Community of Madrid to obtain ISO 20387, the highest international quality standard for biobanks.
The Biobank of Puerta de Hierro University Hospital and the Puerta de Hierro Segovia de Arana Research Institute (IDIPHISA) have achieved ISO 20387 accreditation, as reported by Noticias de Majadahonda. With this, the public centre is the first in the Community of Madrid to receive this recognition.
The standard certifies that the organization has competent personnel and appropriate equipment and infrastructure for biomedical research. It also requires the application of procedures that ensure quality in the management of biological samples and their data.
The recognition supports the biobank's work protocols in the treatment and storage of samples, which serve both the centre's own research and its external collaborations. The accreditation also opens the door to participating in multicentre studies and national and international scientific cooperation.
