The Madrid Railway Friends Association will operate its historic '80s Train' to Campo de Criptana on Sunday, October 18, departing from Madrid-Chamartín with tickets from €31.45.

The Madrid Railway Friends Association (AAFM), together with Tourist Trains, has scheduled a special trip on October 18 to Campo de Criptana (Ciudad Real) aboard the historic '80s Train'. The train will operate under the name 'Expreso de la Mancha' and will depart in the morning from Madrid-Chamartín, with stops at Madrid-Atocha Cercanías and Aranjuez for passenger boarding, as reported by the association.

The journey will take place along the Madrid-Valencia line, leaving behind the Tajo valleys to enter the plains of La Mancha. In Alcázar de San Juan, a railway hub of La Mancha, the train will make a stop for passengers who wish to visit the town before continuing to Campo de Criptana, where arrival is expected after 11:30, according to information published by latribunadeciudadreal.es.

Passengers will have several hours to eat and explore Campo de Criptana, whose most famous area is the Sierra de los Molinos, linked to the episode of Don Quixote's giants. Those interested can participate in a complementary activity to learn about this site, with prior reservation through the association's Ticket Office. At the foot of the mountain lies the Albaicín neighbourhood, with narrow streets and whitewashed houses, as well as the Pósito Real and the Plaza Mayor.

In the late afternoon, the 'Expreso de la Mancha' will begin its return journey, with an expected arrival in Madrid around 20:30.

Tickets are available from €31.45, with a 10% discount for association members. They can be purchased at www.trenesturisticos.es and at the AAFM social premises during their opening days and hours.

The Madrid Railway Friends Association is a non-profit entity founded in 1946 and declared of Public Utility by the Madrid City Council in 1988.

Among its aims is the conservation and restoration of historical railway heritage through the voluntary work of its members and the collaboration of workers and companies in the sector. The trains, once in operational condition, are valued through special trips like this one.

The composition of the '80s Train' includes several passenger cars built in the 1980s, during RENFE's modernization efforts before the arrival of high-speed trains. There are salon cars, compartment cars, sleeper cars, and a sleeping car, painted in blue and yellow or brown and cream.

The return journey will start in the late afternoon, with the return to Madrid expected around 20:30. Reservations for the complementary activity in the Sierra de los Molinos are managed at the association's Ticket Office.
