The Civil Guard is examining alleged deliveries of 24-carat gold coins to José Luis Ábalos and Koldo García in Barajas in 2020, as part of the investigation into possible irregular financing of the PSOE.

The Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard is investigating possible movements of gold linked to former Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, former minister José Luis Ábalos, and his former advisor Koldo García, according to El Español. The investigations are part of the case concerning alleged commissions and possible irregular financing of the PSOE.

According to this information, Rodríguez allegedly delivered 24-carat gold coins featuring Simón Bolívar to Ábalos and García during their meeting at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport on January 20, 2020. This incident gave rise to what is known as 'Delcygate', due to European restrictions affecting the Venezuelan leader.

The publication also points to possible deliveries of bars in Caracas. Simón Zerpa, former Venezuelan Minister of Economy and Finance, allegedly sent photographs of bars to businessman Víctor de Aldama, who reportedly confirmed the mentioned deliveries to the newspaper.

Investigators are examining references to the gold and related communications to clarify the origin of the goods, their recipients, and their possible connection to illicit payments. So far, the published information does not allow for a conclusion that the gold was intended to finance the PSOE: the possible connection will need to be determined based on evidence and judicial actions.

The claims made in the journalistic information do not, in themselves, constitute a firm judicial conclusion. The proceedings continue under secrecy, and no public appearance or deadline for future actions has been set.
