The electoral advance to November 29 places Alcobendas before elections in which the PP achieved 45.16% of the votes in 2023, 12 points above the national average. La Moraleja and the District of Urbanisations concentrate the conservative vote.
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced the advance of the general elections to November 29, 2026, a date that has a specific meaning in Alcobendas: the richest city in Spain is one of the strongest strongholds of the PP in the Community of Madrid. According to lamoraleja.com, the municipality arrives at these elections with one of the highest average household incomes in the country.
In the general elections of July 23, 2023, the PP obtained 45.16% of the votes in Alcobendas, which translated into 27,236 ballots, almost 17 points more than in 2019 and over 10,000 additional votes. The City Council highlighted at that time that it was the Madrid city with more than 100,000 inhabitants with the highest percentage of votes for the PP in the entire region. The national average for the party was 33%, 12 points below.
The PSOE was the second force in Alcobendas, while Vox came third with 14.27%, more than four points less than in 2019. Voter turnout reached 74.59%, slightly below the 75.31% of 2019. A total of 60,775 votes were cast, with 452 blank and 474 null.
The socioeconomic profile partly explains this behaviour. Alcobendas has the highest net average income per household in Spain and houses in La Moraleja the residential area with the highest property sale prices in the country. The Business Park concentrates Spanish headquarters of multinational companies. This high-income electorate, with qualified employment and private ownership, historically correlates with conservative voting in Western Europe.
Within the municipality, there are marked differences. The District of Urbanisations, which includes La Moraleja, El Soto, and El Encinar de los Reyes, concentrates the majority of the conservative vote. The PSOE achieves its best results in Valdelasfuentes, Arroyo de la Vega, and La Zaporra, where the socioeconomic profile is lower and there are more middle-lower class families. La Moraleja, with an average annual income of 120,000 euros per household, is politically a different territory from the rest of the municipality.
In the municipal elections of May 28, 2023, the PP achieved 42.56% of the votes (24,271) and 13 of the 25 councillors. The PSOE was second with 29.3% and 9 councillors, while Vox obtained 2. Voter turnout was 69.92%, two and a half points higher than in 2019. Since then, Rocío García Alcántara has governed with a comfortable majority without needing to negotiate with Vox for ordinary decisions.
The electoral advance changes the context compared to 2023. The housing decree that Junts has conditioned has opened a debate on rental and ownership that affects a municipality where the average property sale price has risen by 45% in 2026 and where thousands of owners rent at luxury prices. How the PP articulates its position on housing during the campaign may influence the votes of electors with direct interests in the real estate market.
The other factor is Vox. In 2023, it lost more than four points compared to 2019, indicating a useful vote concentrated in the PP. In a municipality where the right typically sums more than 60% of the votes, the fragmentation or concentration of that vote is the factor that could alter the result. The last three electoral events indicate that Alcobendas is unlikely to change colour on 29N; what may vary is the margin, participation, and internal distribution among the parties in that bloc.
