David Martínez's family, aged 25, is searching for him in hospitals in Toledo and Madrid following the train collision between Urda and Los Yébenes.
Official sources have confirmed at least 69 dead, along with dozens of injured and missing, after the collision of two trains between Urda and Los Yébenes in Toledo. Among those affected is David Martínez Méndez, a 25-year-old engineer, who was travelling in seat 16A of car 7 of the AVE heading to Seville for work reasons. This was reported by El Correo de Andalucía, which has spoken with his family.
His family travelled to Toledo as soon as they learned which trains were involved. They first searched for the young man at the Hospital Universitario de Toledo, where there were eight people in intensive care in serious condition, but they could not find him. They then went to the Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid, where they arrived at night and found three other unidentified patients in the ICU, without any luck.
The family claims that the Guardia Civil informed them that the young man had been transferred to a hospital in Madrid, although they could not specify which one. According to the family, the various centres do not have a record of David Martínez's admission.
We remain hopeful of finding him
In a statement sent to the press, the family requests any information regarding the young man's whereabouts, including what may seem minor. His relatives in Madrid and Seville are sharing his photo and name on social media.
Any detail, no matter how small, could be of great help
The Guardia Civil's Zone Headquarters in Andalusia continues to collect DNA samples and register missing person reports. So far, 64 people are reported missing. Families can leave their details at a temporary office that, according to sources from the force, will remain open as long as necessary.
We just want to know where he is and how he is doing
