Parque Ventas is over 70% complete. The new green space of 16,370 m² over the M-30 will include two wooden bears in the children's area.
The works on Parque Ventas, which will transform the M-30 cover into a green space of 16,370 square meters, have already exceeded 70% completion. The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, visited the site on Wednesday accompanied by Deputy Mayor Inma Sanz; the Delegate for Works and Equipment, Paloma García Romero; and the councillors for Salamanca and Ciudad Lineal, Cayetana Hernández de la Riva and Nadia Álvarez.
The land filling, which will turn the concrete slab into fertile soil, is 80% complete. The current work focuses on the urbanisation of the cover, where sanitation, electricity, drinking water, irrigation, and communication connections are being installed. The total project exceeds 56,600 square meters and includes improvements on both sides of the ring road.
Of the eight pedestrian walkways that will provide access to the park, the four on the Salamanca side are already connected to the platform. The current work is focused on raising the remaining four on the Ciudad Lineal side. A cycling route will also be added, connecting both districts via the Ramón de Aguinaga walkway.
The major new feature revealed during the visit is the design of the children's area, featuring unique play structures shaped like two wooden bears, a nod to the capital's symbol. The installation, still in the manufacturing phase, is designed for children aged 3 to 12 years and will include a tower with climbing nets and a tubular slide of 4.8 meters high. Additionally, there will be an inclusive slide of 1.3 meters for children with varying abilities.
The bears will be made from accoya wood, a material that is soft to the touch and does not feel too hot or too cold. The project also includes 960 new trees and a new monumental fountain in the Plaza de la América Española, which has already been built and is awaiting its operational mechanism.
According to OK Diario, the City Council emphasises that the project is on schedule. The park will connect the districts of Salamanca and Ciudad Lineal both pedestrian and aesthetically, and it is expected to be completed in approximately a year and a half.
